ATTENDANCE & ABSENCE:

Prompt and regular school attendance is expected.  Students are expected to be on campus five minutes before class begins.  Early bedtime, a good breakfast, and a happy send-off from home help children succeed in school.  Students must be kept home when they are sick or have an elevated temperature.  Tardy students are to report to the office to obtain a late slip.  Missed work should be completed promptly. Parents should call the office or send a note to explain absences and tardies.  Absences are excused by the School when due to sickness, medical appointments, and similar emergencies.  An excessive number of tardies or absences may make it difficult for a student to keep up with the class and may jeopardize enrollment.

BOOKS AND SUPPLIES:

Most educational items are supplied by the School.  However, teachers may ask students to bring some items such as notebooks, writing paper, pencils, and note cards.  Textbooks and unused portions of workbooks are property of the School and are to be shown care in handling.  RCDS library books are to be returned promptly.  Charges are made for school items that are lost or damaged.

CLASS PARTIES AND PICNICS:

Class parties are provided at school each year for Christmas and Valentine's Day.  An end-of-the-year picnic is provided for classes in K-2nd, while 3rd-6th have Sports Day in May.  Teachers will contact parents for help on refreshments for these parties and picnics. Parents are to check with the teacher before providing party refreshments or birthday treats for the class.  Birthday treats should be served as a dessert immediately following lunch.  All party refreshments and birthday treats are to be kept to simple, easy-to-serve items such as fruit, nuts, cookies, and cupcakes.

DISASTER PREPARATION:

We have stored food supplies, first aid kits, rescue equipment, and toilet facilities to accommodate student and staff needs for several days in the event of a city-wide disaster.  We have developed a Disaster Evacuation Plan and a Staff Disaster Response Team to help provide disaster relief.  Printed copies of our disaster relief plan are available in the school office.

DISTRIBUTION OF INVITATIONS & FLYERS:

No informational flyers, off-campus party invitations, or other literature will be distributed at school unless first cleared through the office where propriety and timing are ascertained. Parents are to check in the office to acquire addresses for mailing home party invitations for classmates rather than distributing invitations at school.

GRADING SCALES:

Subjective Scale:       Objective Scale:

E = Excellent             A = 90 - 100%
                               B = 80 - 89%

S = Satisfactory          C = 70 - 79%
                               D = 60 - 69%

U = Unsatisfactory      F =  0 -  59%

HOMEWORK:

Students are assigned homework in order to review concepts taught in class.  At the first of the school year, teachers will alert parents to the general weekly pattern for student homework.  Weekly homework assignment sheets are used in grades 3-6 to help students develop responsibility in personal work and study habits.  Parents should help students select a specified time and place for doing work.  If homework consistently takes more than an hour, the parent should make inquiry to the teacher.  Completed assignments, books, and materials should be returned to school punctually to avoid downgrading.

NEWSLETTERS AND NOTICES:

During the summer parents will receive a newsletter, room and teacher assignment, and tuition payment information.  During the school year other important newsletters and notices are sent home.

PARENT HANDBOOK:

When students are first enrolled, parents receive a Parent Handbook which explains the School's educational philosophy and operating procedures.  Since cooperation with these procedures is expected, parents should keep the Handbook accessible for ready reference. Much of the information contained in the Parent Handbook may be found at this RCDS web site.

PARENT-TEACHER COMMUNICATION:

It is our desire to maintain clear communication with each school family.  The teacher initiates contact with each parent at Back-to-School Night, on Parent-Teacher Conference Days, and at other times according to the need.  Teacher notes requiring parent signature should be given prompt parent response.  Parents are encouraged to write a note to the teacher or to call the office to arrange a conference as soon as a need arises.  It is important for parents to let the teacher know when the child's readiness to learn is affected by home needs including family illnesses, deaths, and divorces.  Please contact the office to visit your child's classroom or to arrange for early pick-up for urgent appointments.

PERSONAL ITEMS/LOST AND FOUND:

All items, such as sweaters, lunch pails, and money envelopes are to be labeled at home with student name and room number.  Toys and athletic equipment should be left at home unless the teacher gives prior approval.  Chewing gum, student-owned staplers and pencil sharpeners are prohibited on campus.  All weapons and dangerous items are prohibited on campus.  "Lost and Found" items are displayed for claiming outside the rear office door.  Selling or buying of items between students is not allowed on campus.

RATE SCHEDULE FOR TUITION AND FEES:

The Rate Schedule is distributed by March 1 to announce costs for school services for the coming school year.  Click here to view the current Rate Schedule.
